Incredible preformances for Black History were made by UHS and UMS

On February 16th, UHS and UMS had our Black History Month Program. Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It honors black people from every period of United States History, from the enslaved people who were brought over from Africa to African Americans in America today. UHS and UMS had a program reflecting this American tradition in hopes of educating students on black history. 

The program included the UMS and UHS band, orchestra, poems, stories, and a guest appearance from the Cordova High choir. Multiple sources said that they thoroughly enjoyed the program and the people who performed in it.

“I really liked the program because it helped people recognize the importance of Black History," said Christian Hilliard, a middle school student who participated in the Black History Month Program. 

“I wanted to participate because I love experiencing Black culture, and I enjoy dancing, so the two coming together made me want to participate even more," said Hannah Black, a 9th grade student at UHS.
