As the Holiday season is fast approaching, our tigers have many unique ways to celebrate during the holiday season.
“We usually celebrate catholic holidays like Christmas regularly as well as new years and birthdays. Usually we would attend or throw parties, and this is very frequent because of the Filipino tendency to celebrate with others.I would say that is part of tradition.” Says Jax, a 9th grader at UHS.
While Christmas is a widely celebrated holiday, there are other holidays that are being celebrated in our diverse student body that are lesser known.
“As a Muslim, I have two holidays that many people don't know of or celebrate. The first is Ramadan, in which every eleven months, I fast for one month. This means I cannot eat or drink anything until sundown until Ramadan is over, in which it is celebrated with Eid, which is the other holiday.” Remarked Joaquin, a 10th grader at UHS.
“My faith believes that for Ramadan, you need to fast to build your empathy and appreciate those who go on without being able to eat when they choose.” Joaquin further explains the purpose behind Ramadan.
Other students will be celebrating other traditions from other faiths.
Cecilia, a 6th grade tiger, sheds light on jewish traditions during the holiday season. “We light the menorah during Hanukkah. I believe that lighting the menorah represents how we are thankful for the things we have.”
The University Schools wish everyone to have a safe and happy holiday season and enjoy your celebrations.
