Mission Status: Evaluation. As we approach the end of the 2025 calendar year, we have reached our Mid-Mission Checkpoint. It’s time to celebrate the incredible distance we’ve traveled since launch and "refuel" our energy for the new year ahead. Our trajectory is looking stellar!
🎨 Mission Accomplished: 376 Smiles Headed Overseas! 🇺🇸
Ms. Gordon is so incredibly proud to announce the final count for our Holiday Cards for the Troops drive! Thanks to the phenomenal effort from our wonderful students, staff, and parents, we collected an amazing 376 cards! 🎉 That means 376 brave men and women serving in our military will smile a little brighter this Holiday season when they receive a personalized piece of artwork and a heartfelt message from our community!
A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Garrett and Ms. Dawes and their enthusiastic students for joining the cause and contributing such beautiful, warm cards. Your participation made a huge difference! Thank you all for opening your hearts and sharing your creativity. Happy Holidays!
🏀 Third Grade Field Trip: College Game Day! 🚀
A huge shout-out to our entire third grade who had an amazing local field trip this week!
Our students got to experience the excitement of college athletics right here in Jersey City when they attended the Saint Peter's University (SPU) vs. Army West Point Women's Basketball game!
What They Experienced:
Local Pride: They cheered on our local SPU Peacocks in a high-energy "Kids Day" environment.
Teamwork and Focus: The students watched high-level college athletes compete, seeing firsthand how hard work and dedication pay off as the players showed incredible focus, strategy, and sportsmanship.
Inspiring Athletes: It was a wonderful opportunity to cheer on phenomenal women athletes and see what they can achieve through teamwork and commitment!
This trip was a slam dunk! We hope our third graders came back inspired to pursue their own goals with determination!
🔬 PS16 Science Fair Success!
Aspiring Scientists Blast Off with Brilliant Projects! 🚀
What an amazing display of inquiry and innovation! We are thrilled to congratulate our twenty aspiring scientists (five selected from each 5th-grade homeroom) who participated in our annual School Science Fair. The sheer quality of the projects was outstanding, showcasing a truly high level of critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. These students tackled complex, real-world questions and demonstrated phenomenal scientific rigor!

A special round of applause goes to our top three winners who will proudly move on to represent PS #16 at the District Science Fair in January!
1st Place - Krishiv Yadav - Beyond the Gusts, Rays, and Vibrations: Which renewable energy shines the brightest or is a hybrid the ultimate energy solution?
2nd Place - Rohan Addanki - How do you remove microplastics from water using ferromagnets?
3rd Place - Olivia Ghosh - What happens if you fall into a black hole?
We wish Krishiv, Rohan, and Olivia the very best of luck as they advance to the next level of competition! They have made PS #16 incredibly proud.
Finally, a massive shout-out to Ms. Shue and Ms. Greene, our dedicated 5th-grade Science teachers, for their constant guidance, support, and for inspiring this next generation of brilliant minds!
Our December trajectory was brightened by one of our favorite community traditions: the Annual Tree Lighting at the Main Building! As we reached our mid-mission checkpoint, the PS 16 family gathered together to provide a beacon of light for the holiday season.
Mission Highlights:
The Big Launch: The Main Building was transformed as we officially lit the tree, symbolizing the warmth and unity of our school "crew."
Harmonizing the Fleet: The night was filled with music during our festive Sing-Along. It was wonderful to hear so many voices joined together in holiday cheer, proving that a mission is always stronger when we sing in harmony!
This celebration served as a beautiful reminder of the community spirit that fuels our journey toward success.
Unidentified flying elves were recently spotted navigating the halls of the Main Building! It turns out our very own Ms. Peters, Mrs. McGinn, and Mrs. Warrington decided to leave their "shelves" behind to cause some festive chaos in our classrooms.
The "mission sensors" were off the charts as the trio brought a burst of holiday excitement to our students. Luckily, Ms. Cartagena was on site to capture some "classified" video evidence of the shenanigans!

🌟 A Legendary Retirement: Mrs. Amadeo
Mrs. Amadeo retired after an amazing 40 years of dedicated service in education, with 22 of those wonderful years spent right here with us, at PS 16!
Mrs. Amadeo, thank you for four decades of kindness, wisdom, and heart. You have helped so many students blast off to success, and while we will miss you dearly, we wish you the most relaxing and joyful retirement. Once a Bradford Bear, always a Bradford Bear! 🐻

The absolute highlight of our final week was the legendary PS 16 Ball Drop! We wrapped up the first half of our mission with a countdown that could be heard across the galaxy.
