Class trip to the Bowling Alley! They had a "pincredible time!"
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 94th birthday celebration, the first grade students from PS 16 annex held a peaceful march in school. Students created posters representing peace and love, a philosophy believed by Dr.King, which has the power to break the cycle of retributive violence and create peace and friendship.
Ms. Palmer's 1st grade class (210A) has started a new tradition. Each child's family was asked to write an encouraging note/letter to their child, which the students read right before they took the standardized, STAR Math, Reading/Literacy tests. This was a way to show the students that they were more than a test score. All that was required of them was to do their best, and that they would be unconditionally loved regardless of their performance. The families penned cute and heartfelt letters which delighted the students, who finally had their persistent curiosities about the nature of the sealed envelopes answered right before the tests.

The Cox brothers addressed the City Council at City Hall asking them to fix the Pershing Park Ice Rink. "At least a dozen Jersey City Capitals’ players, like 8-year-old twins Olney and Marty Cox, attended the meeting to urge the council to order repairs so they can get on the ice as soon as possible. “I am here because I love hockey and we don’t have a rink to practice or play games,” said Olney, surrounded by his teammates. “I am mad, sad and frustrated that our rink is still broken. Please fix our rink so everyone in our community can use it.”" “It hurts my feelings that some kids had to quit hockey because our rink is closed,” Marty said after his brother. “We have had to travel far distances just to play hockey.”
