From September 15th to October 15th, our school community celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month, recognizing the rich histories, vibrant cultures, and countless contributions of Hispanic and Latine communities.
This year’s national theme, “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together,” inspired us to honor the trailblazers—past and present—who have shaped our world through innovation, leadership, and resilience.
🍎 Farm life is the best life! Our second graders had a blast exploring VonThun Farms and learning where their food comes from. 🚜
🦁 Third grade went wild! 🐘 Ms. Dalgo's class had a roaring good time exploring the animals and ecosystems at Turtle Back Zoo!

This October, Cornelia F. Bradford School, P.S. #16, dedicated a week to Dyslexia Awareness to promote empathy, understanding, and the message that Every Learner Matters. October is National Dyslexia Awareness Month , and we focused on celebrating the unique way the dyslexic brain is wired and reinforcing that Dyslexia is a learning difference, not a limitation.
Inclusion starts with understanding. We encourage everyone to continue these allyship actions:
Be Patient: If a friend needs more time to read or write, don't rush them; be a calm friend.
Celebrate Strengths: Focus on what your friend is great at—like building, art, or big ideas.
Speak Up for Kindness: If you hear someone being unkind about reading or spelling, be brave and say, "That's not okay".
Let's continue to build a space where every unique learner feels valued, supported, and understood!
Go Red for Dyslexia Day!
We saw strong support, including Mrs. Hennessey and Marty rocking their New Jersey Devils red to show they are united in solidarity and support for all diverse learners!
United in Red!
This brilliant group of 2nd graders from Ms. McCarren and Ms. Sanchez's class showed up in force to support Go Red for Dyslexia Day! They are true allies, showing visible unity and inclusion for all diverse learners.
The skies decided to be a little cloudy and drop some rain—yep, it poured!—but that certainly didn't stop our amazing students, families, and staff from marching in the parade! It was truly a case of "rain, rain, go away, but not on our parade!" 🥳
We were marching to celebrate a tremendous honor bestowed upon one of our very own: Mrs. Warrington Galano! She was honored as this year's Italian Educator! Mrs. Warrington Galano marched so proudly, and we were thrilled to be right there with her, cheering her on every step of the way.
A huge bravo and congratulations to Mrs. Warrington Galano for this wonderful recognition, and a big high-five to all the students and families who braved the weather to show their support! Your dedication and enthusiasm, despite the cloudy weather, prove that the P.S. 16 community is a force to be reckoned with!
October is Fire Prevention Month, and to help our students learn critical lessons in safety, students from Rooms 205 and 204 had a special opportunity to meet a community hero!
These classes welcomed a firefighter from the Bayonne Fire Department for a special interview. The students did an excellent job, asking thoughtful questions about the job and essential fire safety practices. They learned first-hand about:
The Job: What it takes to be a firefighter, from training to the types of emergencies they handle.
Fire Safety: Crucial tips for staying safe at home and school.
These interactions help reinforce the importance of having an escape plan and knowing to "Stop, Drop, and Roll."
A huge thank you to the Bayonne Fire Department for partnering with us and teaching our students how to be safe and prepared. These lessons are truly life skills!
P.S. 16 was glowing with color and light this month as we celebrated Diwali, the Festival of Lights! To recognize this important cultural holiday, students who celebrate Diwali were invited to wear their traditional cultural attire. Our halls were transformed by a beautiful array of colorful sarees, kurtas, and lehengas.
It was a joy to see our students share their heritage and shine so brightly, demonstrating the wonderful cultural diversity that makes our P.S. 16 community so special! Thank you to the students and families who shared this part of their tradition with us!
Diwali Delight in 102!
5th Grade Homeroom 303 Lights Up!
The Annex was transformed into a perfect fall scene for our youngest learners this month! Grades K–2 enjoyed a special visit to the Annex Pumpkin Patch.
This festive event was made extra special thanks to the help of our Student Council representatives, who volunteered their time! The students helped the younger grades pick out the perfect pumpkin to take home, ensuring every Kindergartener through 2nd grader had a fun and memorable harvest experience.
Falling into Fabulousness! 🍂 Join us in wishing a very happy birthday to all our amazing P.S. 16 students and staff who was born in October!
More news to come! See you next month...
