ELA Enrichment 309/Homeroom 302
A time to celebrate
the rich history, culture, and contributions of African
Americans. Throughout the month, our students will be
learning about important figures, events, and
movements that have shaped our world.
Our Girl Scout Troop had the opportunity to visit City Hall and gain insight into the workings of our local government. They were warmly welcomed by John Hallanan, the First Deputy City Clerk, who guided them on the tour. The girls had numerous questions, ranging from "Can girls become mayor or council members?" to "What was the reason behind the duel between Hamilton and Aaron Burr?" They even got to sit in the chairs of our Council President, three at-large council members, and six Ward council members.
This week focused on kindness, love, and community spirit! Our National Elementary Honor Society launched Random Acts of Kindness Week with a range of activities and a pledge from the entire school to foster a more compassionate environment. CFB, PS 16 is now officially recognized as a certified kind school!
CFB, PS 16 marked the 100th day of school on February 19th, with students and staff dressing up as 100-year-olds. The sight was delightful, as the hallways filled with laughter and excitement. Students shuffled in with canes, oversized glasses resting on their noses, and hair dusted to resemble the silvery strands of age. Many added shawls or suspenders to enhance their charmingly elderly looks. Teachers also participated, donning vintage outfits and embracing the playful personas of their centenarian counterparts.
Performing arts students from the Jersey City Arts high school program joined some of our talented students for a special performance on Wednesday, February 19th. This event was a powerful and moving tribute to the rich history and culture of Black Americans.
Third grader Kavya Jatkar proudly represented CFB, PS 16 at the county spelling bee!
Fifth graders Reya, Kaya, and Ahaan were honored at the district Science Fair Awards ceremony on Thursday night. A big congratulations to Reya, who secured first place in the 5th grade category across the entire district!
