Day 9 (Saturday, June 14): Historic Catania
Catania is famous for its fish market, and we visit this, together with its immediate environs that house the cathedral and the medieval university. We then walk to Lettura 82, a neighborhood restaurant in the shadow of the ancient Ursino Castle, whose galleries we visit early in the afternoon. Then a walking tour is offered through the ‘street of churches,’ and the apogee of ‘Sicilian baroque,’ the former monastery of St. Benedict. Following such exertions we return to the hotel for the pool (and the beach for those who prefer it), before returning to the city for the neighborhood restaurant, I Moschetierri, for a seafood dinner.
