Day 7 (Thursday, June 12): Arrival in Sicily

After breakfast we travel 115 miles south to Reggio Calabria to visit the National Museum of Magna Graecia, focusing on the Riace statues, the finest surviving examples of Greek bronzes. We eat a light lunch in Reggio Calabria, and then cross the straits of Messina to Sicily, driving down the east coast, past Mount Etna, to our new base outside the city of Catania. Our beach front hotel offers many creature comforts, not least a pool and dining room, where dinner is served.
