Day 14 (Thursday, June 19): Segesta & Selinunte
The most picturesque temple in the entire Greek world is perhaps not the Parthenon in Athens, but the solitary temple at Segesta. We visit this isolated settlement early in the day, enjoying also its elegant Greek theater whose views overlooking the valley are breathtaking. After a lunch buffet at Lido Zabbara, we visit the nearby site of Selinunte, one of the largest archeological parks in Europe and home to countless Greek remains. This city was home to more than 30,000 citizens and slaves, but it was abandoned by its Carthaginian masters in 211 BCE. Following this visit we return to Palermo for dinner at Moltivolti, a collective harnessing the talents of Palermo's recent immigrant populations.
