Day 6 (Wednesday, June 11): Water Buffaloes, Cheese and Greek temples
Day 6 (Wednesday, June 11): Water Buffaloes, Cheese and Greek temples
We make a relatively early departure south from Campania for the former Greek colony of Paestum, to witness the daily manufacture of cheese at Tenuta Vannulo, the source of the world’s finest mozzarella. After a guided tour of the farm and personal introduction (!) to the water buffalo herd, you can purchase leather products and taste products made from the distinctive buffalo milk. A light lunch featuring both mozzarella and ricotta prepares us for a visit to the Greek temples at the nearby archeological park. After a shopping opportunity in Paestum, we travel 160 miles south to a very comfortable overnight stop at the Hotel Villa Romana Palace, in Rende.
