Day 5 (Tuesday, June 10): Pompeii & Mt. Vesuvius

After breakfast at either the Villa or the hotel, the group visits the ancient site of Pompeii, exploring its transition from a Greek colony to a typical Roman town. Again, our group is guided in two cohorts around the site by Dr. Barnes & Dr. Lowe for a more personal experience. Sitting in the theater, we eat a packed lunch, and then make our way to the coach which takes us the base station of Mount Vesuvius. Those who wish can then ascend the final trail to the crater rim. Exhilarated by the astounding views from the summit, we then descend the 4,200 feet to the Villa Vergiliana for the aperitif hour and dinner.
