For my Fall 2022 honors course, I took COMM-R110 (Fundamentals of Speech Communication) This class is a class based on public speaking and the use of rhetoric to persuade your audience of a stated topic. In every section of R110, you will give a total of five (5) speeches, and in the honors section, you will give an additional speech at the end of the 5 scheduled speeches. The class is based heavily on peer evaluation and progress. The goal is to become a more comfortable speaker while also conveying your point effectively.Â
As I have stated previously, I have never taken a public speaking class in the past and my only other public speaking experience was at my high school graduation when I gave the Valedictory Address for my class. I was very nervous going into the class because I knew that I would become a lot closer to my classmates through learning about their experiences in their speeches, and I knew they would also get to know me very well this way. Having taken this class, I feel a lot more comfortable speaking in front of a group of people and I also feel better about using rhetoric to convey my ideas as well.
