LittlEARS Item 31

31. Does your child try to sing along when hearing a song?

Your child will understand that music is playing.  Your child may attempt to imitate you or remember the song and vocalize/sing along.  "Singing" can be vocalizations, words, tune, etc.

Example Situation

While sitting with your child, you notice that your child is looking at you.  Singing helps to connect with your child and provides information about intonation, pitch, and the communicative aspects that aren't as obvious.

Your child responds to music and singing!  Music and songs provide your child with opportunities to connect to you.  Research tells us that singing helps children with attending and reduces anxiety.

In the video below, the child and her father dance, wiggle, and turn-take.  The child responds to her father singing the song.
