LittlEARS Item 1

  1. Does your child respond to a familiar voice?

Your child reacts when a familiar voice is presented.  Responses can be anything such as looking at the person, moving, a facial expression (e.g., smile), or a sound they make.

Example Situation

Your child smiles when hearing the voice of a familiar person.

ASK YOURSELF:
When your child hears a familiar speaker (such as a parent or close family member), do they seem to hear their voice? They may look around, stop their movements, smile, or vocalize.

How to address this skill:

The speaker can repeat what they say and try to get child’s attention through listening, say I hear it! Point to your ear and label what you have heard!

Make sure to label the sound that you hear (or who is talking).

This helps make sound meaningful.

Call attention to sounds, wait for responses, and label them!
