Resources for Families

HOW WILL I COMMUNICATE WITH MY BABY?

This is a question that many families consider when they find out that their child has a hearing loss. Some families have Deaf Family members and use ASL, so their is a clear path for communication. For many families, their baby is the first person they have ever met who has a hearing loss.

There are many different ways to communicate with your baby- all of them can have great outcomes when consistently supported.

This book (provided by NCHAM) shares some of the communication options you can explore with your early intervention provider.

HATCH (Helping Adults Talk to Children) is focused on language development with the goal of having all children who are DHH develop the skills to lead communication-rich lives, regardless of what languages or modalities they use.
