Wednesday, CAREIALL due.
We must be done with CAREIALL by Wednesday. We should have all the synchronous training done before we go to the last synchronous session this week!
Remember, we can go to the "grades" tab within the platform to easily see what we are missing!
For modules 1-7 I have emailed staff directly that have items listed as missing.
Friday: Fun Day
From the 5/16 update: The map has adjusted slightly for the North activities and the rotation has adjusted slightly for the South activities **Water Balloon is moving to where Otter Pops were, Otter Pops are moving over by the East Playground **After Fill the Bucket, you will rotate to Drip Drip Drop. I have attached both an updated map and schedule.
As we prepare for the 2025–2026 school year, I want to share a building-wide update on planned room reassignments. These changes reflect shifts in enrollment and programming, including the addition of an 8th Kindergarten section, changes in ADSIS staffing, and a continued focus on centralizing support services and improving space use across the building.
Seven staff members will be impacted by these changes, and I’ve worked to connect with each person directly to review the rationale and logistics. All moves are being made with thoughtfulness, care, and alignment to individual roles and student needs.
Here is a summary of the planned room changes:
Peck-Burley (Title) – E208 → E108
Moves to a more central location on the main level for easier student access.
Johnson, S. (Title) – E107 → E208
Relocated to a quieter upstairs space that supports her instructional role and provides greater flexibility for her work with student groups.
Fannin (Behavior/Regulation Support) – E108 → E116
Gains a slightly larger space, shared with Maddy, to support student regulation and occasional full-class SEL lessons.
Rohloff – F108 → D101
Moves to support her transition from 1st grade to Kindergarten.
Jones (Anishinaabe Gikinoo’amaadiwin) – E121 → E212
Moves to a full-sized classroom upstairs, continuing her vital cultural and language work.
Garrison – A129 → E121
Makes room for the DCD program in the SPED wing.
Karnes (ADSIS) – E116 → E107
Gains a centrally located room suited for larger small-group instruction alongside Title colleagues.
Fitch (DCD) – D113 → A129
Moves into the SPED wing for proximity to team members, resources, and bathrooms needed for the program.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or need help thinking through how this might impact your space or student groups. I’m grateful for your flexibility and continued commitment to making West Rapids a welcoming and responsive place for our students.
P.S. The CareHawk list for the PA system is probably easier to read than the original site maps. The “Room” column on that sheet shows who is currently assigned to each space this year.
We all know the end of the year can feel a bit wild—but I want to remind us that it’s often not the calendar driving the chaos. It’s the little shifts we choose to make—sometimes consciously, sometimes without realizing it. Things like adding extra recess, giving more breaks, loosening up on small behaviors, or allowing things we typically don’t—like toys from home or sandals on the playground. These micro changes add up and can create a sense of “anything goes” right when students actually need the most structure and consistency.
Here’s my old-man advice: don’t let up now. Our students thrive on clear expectations, and we’ve worked hard all year to build routines and a strong community. This is the moment to stay the course—be even more consistent, even more clear, and even more intentional. Teach to the finish. That’s how we help kids finish strong and feel secure through the final days.
We’ve got this. Thanks for everything you’re doing to keep things steady and strong to the finish line.
The library will close to classes this Friday, May 9. While students may keep their checked-out books for a couple more weeks, starting Friday, we ask that only book returns be made—no additional checkouts. Please do not schedule class visits to the library, as we will begin conducting our end-of-year inventory. Thank you for your cooperation!
FUN DAY IS MAY 23RD
All the information you need is in this email (...hopefully)
Schedule and map is attached. I have also personally delivered a schedule and map to most of you. Classroom teachers will rotate through the stations with their students and partner teacher. I have 2 volunteers that will run each station. Strikerball does not have volunteers, but students know how to play (it's a P.E. fav)
The empty space in the schedule (--) is Teacher's Choice. Bathroom, water, rest time, playground, look for bigfoot, etc.
Student lunches = teacher lunches
Preps: during your prep time, students will be in the gyms watching a movie.
I will siren and radio when it is time to rotate. Please do not rotate until you hear me.
**Remember to bring your walkie**

ps. WEAR VESTS TOO!
As we get into the rhythm of spring, we’ll be conducting additional fire drills over the next couple of months. While specific dates are not yet scheduled, please know that you will always be notified ahead of time when a drill is happening—even if that notification comes the same day.
We do not plan to surprise classrooms with unannounced drills. Our goal is to keep routines predictable while still meeting safety requirements.
Whether it’s a drill or not, our first response is always to:
Stop what you’re doing.
Listen carefully.
Begin lining up in a calm, quiet manner.
Wait for confirmation to evacuate.
Only exit the building if:
You are directed by a knowledgeable source (office, admin, intercom, radio, etc.),
Or, you have reason to believe you are in danger and need to leave (aligned with ALICE principles).
This approach helps us respond safely to both drills and real emergencies. Thank you for helping students take these routines seriously while staying calm and prepared.
