Please note the following change that we are going to run this coming Thursday, May 1st for preschool. If this works we would finish the year this way in helping us prepare for next year.
As we get into the rhythm of spring, we’ll be conducting additional fire drills over the next couple of months. While specific dates are not yet scheduled, please know that you will always be notified ahead of time when a drill is happening—even if that notification comes the same day.
We do not plan to surprise classrooms with unannounced drills. Our goal is to keep routines predictable while still meeting safety requirements.
Whether it’s a drill or not, our first response is always to:
Stop what you’re doing.
Listen carefully.
Begin lining up in a calm, quiet manner.
Wait for confirmation to evacuate.
Only exit the building if:
You are directed by a knowledgeable source (office, admin, intercom, radio, etc.),
Or, you have reason to believe you are in danger and need to leave (aligned with ALICE principles).
This approach helps us respond safely to both drills and real emergencies. Thank you for helping students take these routines seriously while staying calm and prepared.
We will discuss this Wednesday, read ahead if you like, but do bring a device on Wednesday.
During our early out on Wednesday, April 16, we'll use our time to start the class placement process. I have updated the placement document, we'll use a spreadsheet, with the latest available student data. This includes drop downs for:
Grade
Homeroom Teacher
Last Name / First Name
Date of Birth
Gender
Ethnicity
✅ By April 16, the master spreadsheet will be broken down into individual teacher tabs, so you’ll be able to work directly in your section during our early out time.
Our focus on 4/16 will be updating the following areas:
IEP status
Behavior (based on our rubric)
Peers to separate from
Any other relevant notes
This work will help us prepare for a final review of class lists and placements in May, once all spring assessment data is available. At that time, we’ll update the sheets with completed assessments, including SAEBRs, reading levels, and math levels.
In May, we’ll work together to assign students to classrooms, make adjustments to ensure balanced rosters, and prepare for summer communication. I’ll continue to monitor and make necessary adjustments over the summer as new students enroll or current ones move, keeping balance in mind.
Class lists will not be final and released to families until August.
Plan on a drill around 2:35-2:40pm. But wait for the announcement. Everyone gathers, PreK through 2nd grade.
When we meet we will just sit in lines, no need to cover. Main point is quite and calm!
