This is where books go when they are returned by children. Please, unless you are 200% certain how to use the bookdrop feature and check books back into the library catalog, don't even bring the returned books back into the library.
This cart is NOT for books to be returned to. This is the cart for books that have been returned and checked back in to the system. These then get put back on the shelves. We put books here while we wait from someone to have time to put them back on the shelves. When kids, or teachers, put books directly on this cart without getting them checked back in correctly, the book continues to be shown as overdue and we lose it back on the shelves.... and you/I get a few nasty grams from parents saying the book is turned back in..... :-(
Please view the video, pre-teach any expectations, and discuss what we should see and hear in a Library.
Thank you!
There is a black bin on the desk with Shelf Marker Sticks.
Shelf marker sticks help you remember where your book belongs! When you take a book off the shelf, place the stick in that spot. If you don't want the book, put it back where your stick is. This helps keep the library nice and neat!
Respectful
Using a quiet voice so others can read and focus.
Handling books and library materials carefully.
Responsible
Returning books on time and to the right place.
Keeping track of your borrowed books and library materials.
Safe
Walking slowly and carefully around the library.
Using chairs and furniture properly (no standing or tipping chairs).
Kind
Helping others find a book or reach something on a shelf.
Sharing library materials with classmates and being patient if someone is using what you need.
We will ensure that everything that we need to check books out is on the main desk. We are working on ID cards for the kids to bring to hand to you to scan their card then their book. I (Sean) will train you on this.
I am comfortable with a large group checking out.
I am comfortable with a small group keeping the books organized.

You can look students up by name or scan their barcode. Their barcode is in a binder to the left of the phone and monitor. They may be in the drawer. They are sorted by grade and then classrooms. The scanner is on the counter as well.
The site typically uses the one screen for most work. You change the drop down to check out for checkout. There are other options but for 95% of you, you only need to make sure it says "Check Out" in the top left under the word Circulation.
When checking out books, make sure the drop down is at "Check Out".
They can walk around and browse or search the catalog.

Students are in the system but they do not need to log in to search.
