What an extraordinary year this is turning out to be!
Below are our protocols and guidelines currently in place for the ISB campus for the 2020/21 school year. The ISB Covid-19 protocols are guided by the following principles:
The health and well-being of our students, staff and community will always be our priority.
We will follow the directives of the relevant Serbian Ministries.
We will follow advice from the WHO, CDC and ECDC.
We will consider the experiences of other CEESA schools, similar international schools around the world, and the US Department of State.
I would like to ask for your help, understanding and support. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has become very politicized around the world. In addition, social media has resulted in many opinions becoming quite polarized. There may be some elements of our plan that you do not agree with, or are inconveniencing. If we can all work together as a community, we will have a school that is open for all students, all day, everyday. So, I ask for your patience as we continue to remain open for on campus lessons for our students, in the safest possible way. Our strength has always been our community and that has never been more important than now.
As we continue to update this plan, we listen to and value your feedback from our surveys. Thank you for taking the time to give us your thoughts. These are our main considerations for our plan:
School environments pose a significant risk to the transmission of the virus. We must take this very seriously.
Our international community poses a higher risk than other schools due to the transient and travelling nature of our staff, students and parents.
You have told us that you want the learning program to be as close to normal as possible . You have been clear that you would like all students to be able to be to school, all day, every day, learning the full curriculum. Our Plan does exactly that.
We know that there is a direct link between returning to ‘normality’ and increased risk of virus transmission. To combat this, we know we must impose stringent and strict health and safety protocols to keep our community safe. The more ‘normal’ our operations become, the more strict our health and safety protocols need to be.
This is where we ask for your understanding, because we cannot have one without the other.
We want to be able to keep our school open as long as possible. But, this is a shared responsibility and we need your help. The reality is that when there are positive COVID cases in school, they will have come from an interaction outside of school. This is where you, our parents, can help us keep our school open.
Here are some examples of things we would like everyone to consider to help us all stay healthy and safe, especially as we head towards winter:
Think of all of our students as your own children and our community as your extended family. This is our shared responsibility.
If your child has ANY symptoms, please DO NOT send them to school. This is especially important as Flu season approaches.
Please consider the risk to our school community when considering hosting larger gatherings, such as a Birthday party.
Please consider the risk to our school community if your child is invited to a larger gathering, such as a Birthday party.
For parents of older students, please remind them to consider the risk to our school community if they are socialising in busy hospitality venues in the evening or over the weekend.
Please consider the risk to our school community if you plan to travel through airports or to high risk areas. Even if this is not currently mandatory for everyone in Serbia, you should consider testing or self-quarantine.
Please remember that even if we are allowed to do certain things, it does not mean we should.
This is our school, this is our family, and we must all work together to keep everyone safe and healthy and to continue to keep our school open. We thank you for your support!
Outline Summary of the Key Elements of our ISB Covid-19 Protocols:
The health and well-being of our students, staff and community will always be our priority. To maintain this, our educational focus will be on the core learning program.
We will operate a ‘closed campus’ throughout the school day. This means no-one will be allowed to enter or leave while students are on site.
Thermal Imaging Cameras are installed at the main entrances to check for temperatures of everyone passing into the school grounds. Regular temperature checks will also be taken for everyone during the school day.
Disinfectant barriers will be created at every entrance for people and vehicles.
We are currently following Serbian Government requirements after travelling between countries and for re-entry into Serbia.
When considering travel, please be mindful of our community and remember our shared responsibility.
Families can always choose to take a PCR test or self-quarantine before sending their child back to school, especially if you have travelled through airports or to high risk areas/countries. PCR test results should be presented to the school Doctor, Dr. Lilly. lbalos@isb.rs
Please note that the Government may change their requirements at any time.
We have invested in additional buildings to allow us additional space (at least 4sqm per student, when indoors) for better distancing.
We will make maximum use of outdoor areas for learning and have installed more shaded areas, sunscreen stations, sanitising stations and water stations.
Each Grade level of students and their teachers will have their own area. These fixed ‘bubbles’ reduce interaction between larger groups of students and so, significantly reduce transmission risk.
Face coverings will be required for staff and students (Grade 1 and above) when learning indoors or when distancing cannot be maintained.
We will focus on the core learning program. This means that our after school activities will be adapted accordingly.
Steam cleaners have been purchased to deep clean the school every evening.
Continuous Review
We will review the situation every three weeks and make updates as needed.
Please also note that these plans may need to change at any time as the situation evolves or as Government mandates change.
Thank you all for your support through these difficult times. We feel confident that we can operate a normal school day daily. But, to do so safely, we need your cooperation, understanding and continued support, especially in the initial period.
We look forward to seeing all of your children soon.
Warm regards
Andrew
