Absence & Lateness

General

School attendance is required on all regular school days.  If a child is to be absent all day, then:

Parents must contact the school and report a student’s absence by 8:15am on each morning of absence.

It is a parental responsibility to ensure that a child is well enough to attend school, and a student who is clearly unwell should not be at school.   You can find our board policy on infectious diseases here.

48 Hour Rule

If your child develops vomiting and/or diarrhoea at school they will be sent home.  This is to avoid potential spread of infection to other children in the School.  They should not return to school until 48 hours after the last episode of illness has elapsed to ensure that they are fully recovered.  This rule applies if they become sick whilst at home.  We follow the NHS Grampian Public Health guidelines.

24 Hour Rule

If your child develops a fever (37.5°C or more), they should not return to school until 24 hours afterwards.

Preschool

Preschool drop off times are 8:10am, 8:15am & 8:20am. Drop off and pick up is staggered to facilitate an appropriate handover from parents to Early Years Practitioners, who register students’ daily attendance on their own internal system.  Children will not be admitted before 8.10am.

In case of absence, contact Preschool directly via telephone, or by emailing your child's Keyworker and the Head of Preschool, Andrea Taylor

At the end of the school day, parents should pick up their children directly from Preschool. Pick up times are 2:45pm, 2:50pm & 2:55pm. Children must be collected promptly at their allocated pick up time and always by 3:00pm, except if children are going to after school with CLiCC.

Children will be allocated a drop off & pick up time.  If you are unable to pick your child up from Preschool, and you need to make a different arrangement, you must notify Preschool staff in advance. If plans change during the school day, you must contact the Preschool. Children will only be released to an adult who is known to Preschool staff.

 Elementary

Teachers register students’ daily attendance on Powerschool.

In case of absence, contact the elementary assistant, Diane McBain at dmcbain@isa.aberdeen.sch.uk,  before 8.15am on each day of absence. Please include your child’s full name, Grade and reason for absence.

Students who arrive late to school should check in with reception.  Reception will contact Diane McBain, the elementary assistant.  If available, the student will go to her who will register the student’s attendance and ensure that they get to class.  If she is not available, Reception will contact the student’s classroom teacher.  If available, the student will go to the classroom teacher who will register their attendance.  If neither is available, the student will wait into reception until one can be found.

If a child does not have an after school activity, parents should pick up their children  from outside the front of the school building at 3pm or at the bus pick up location at the scheduled time.  If a child has an after school activity, parents should pick up their children from outside the front of the school building at 4pm (or that arranged time if they are part of CliCC or other additional activity).

Teachers will help elementary students who miss school catch up with work when they return.

Middle and High School

At the beginning of the school day, middle and high school students go directly to their advisories where teachers register their attendance on powerschool.  Additionally high school students use their ID cards to register their daily attendance using the electronic stations.

In case of absence, email or phone (extension 305) the middle/high school secretary, Alison Yesildag at ayesildag@isa.aberdeen.sch.uk, before 8.15am on each day of absence (unless the period of absence is indicated in advance).  Please include your child’s full name, grade and reason for absence.

Students should complete an anticipated absence form if they know of their absence in advance.  Follow the link for more information about absence due to school trips and events.   In Semester 2, Grade 12s may receive off campus privileges

Students who arrive late to school must check in with the middle/high school secretary before going straight to class.  Students who are absent can keep up to work with google classroom.  They can also email their subject teachers for more guidance on keeping up with missed work.
