Gender Sensitisation Committee
The Gender Sensitisation Committee was originally a statutory body under ordinance XV-D of Delhi University, for complaints regarding sexual harassment. The Ordinance was withdrawn in Dec. 2013 and sexual harassment was brought under the College Complaints Committee.
The Principal, Prof. B.M. Saraf, however, felt that awareness and sensitization on gender issues was important for the health and social inclusiveness of the campus. She revived the GSC in January 2015 with this new mandate.
Following the initiative of the Legislature, the Supreme Court and the High Courts, a discussion was organized with transgender activists to understand why higher education is crucial for mainstreaming them. The GSC also organized a discussion on popular and official perceptions of homosexuality and arguments were made for greater acceptance of alternative sexualities.
