MRIDANG

Mridang - the Indian Dance Society of Indraprastha College for Women, has since its inception in 2011 been working towards bringing Indian classical and folk dances to the forefront. The society provides a platform for its members to creatively express themselves through dance and offers a space to educate themselves about the different Indian dance forms.

Mridang has performed a variety of Indian dance forms from different states such as Garba from Gujarat, Gondhal from Maharashtra and Ghoomar from Rajasthan at various platforms over the years. Mridang’s production of 2019-20, Tehra Taali, a popular folk dance of Rajasthan, was performed at various inter-college dance competitions and won applauds at every platform. Amidst the pandemic, the society adapted to the changing times and continued to engage virtually with zeal and enthusiasm. In 2020-21, members of Mridang participated and won various online solo dance competitions. Additionally, the society also organized a lecture demonstration on the Sattriya dance form to commemorate 75 years of India’s Independence (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav) and its glorious history and rich culture.
