Every year, many young women from the northeast enroll in the various disciplines offered by the college. With the growing presence of the northeast in the college, a need for a better awareness and understanding of its different communities and cultures was felt. Indraprastha College for Women is one of the first colleges in the University of Delhi to set up a Northeast Forum (in 2006). The main aim of the Society/Forum is to create a platform for students from the northeast to highlight the region’s social and political issues, and present its rich and vibrant culture. Thus, familiarizing and sensitizing non northeast students to the social, cultural and political fabric of the region. The Society regularly organizes talks and lectures by eminent authors, intellectuals and scholars from the north-east. The annual cultural festivals showcasing the music, dances, costumes and cuisines of the north east attract huge crowds.
In 2014, as per a directive of the MHRD, Government of India, a committee was set up to address the grievances of the students of the northeast. The committee comprises five members from the faculty and six students.
