Members of the IJCL can participate in the annual state convention as well as many other state events such as certamen invitationals, Leadership Growth Day, and Fall Latin Day. The calendar also includes some virtual events that members may attend long-distance. At the state convention, members can compete in academics, graphic arts, creative arts, and certamen; they can run for state office; they can learn from speakers in a variety of colloquia workshops; they can showcase their talents in the That’s Entertainment! variety show; and much more. Several of the annual IJCL events also offer opportunities for members to participate in service projects and to showcase their school spirit. Members in their senior year of high school are eligible to apply for IJCL scholarships awarded based on service, leadership (specifically in Latin and the JCL), character, and scholarship. IJCL executive board meetings, listed on the events calendar, are open for all members to attend and learn more about how the organization works. IJCL chapters receive updates about the organization’s activities throughout the year in the state newsletter, the Veritas et Scientia.
IJCL members are also members of the NJCL, and thus can attend the national convention in the summer for even more opportunities for competition, learning, leadership, service, and fellowship. The NJCL also offers scholarships which students can apply for in their senior year of high school, news about the organization in the newsletter Torch: US, service and leadership opportunities, national online exams in which students can show off their academic skills, and the option to induct students to the National Latin & Greek Honor Society.
When an Indiana school becomes a chapter of the Indiana Junior Classical League, they pay their national fees at the same time and become a National Junior Classical League chapter as well. A school needs only one member to form a chapter.
IJCL has an online membership registration system. Interested teachers should contact chair@ijcl.org to obtain access to the IJCL Membership Portal.
Every sponsor must be a member of the American Classical League. The annual ACL dues may also be paid through the Indiana Junior Classical League as part of the chapter registration process at the beginning of each year. Otherwise, a sponsor may mail their ACL dues directly to the ACL office:
The American Classical League
860 NW Washington Blvd
Suite A
Hamilton, OH 45013
The student dues and chapter dues increase throughout the year. Please use this schedule as a guideline to help you determine the cost at any given time:
The online membership system will generate an invoice that you will be able to print off and submit to your school treasurer. A copy of that invoice and the membership roster should be sent within one week with check payable to Indiana Junior Classical League (IJCL) to: Jeremy Walker, IJCL Financial Coordinator, 209 Maple St., Crown Point, IN, 46307. We encourage sponsors to also submit a Code of Conduct/Medical Release form for each of their members at that time.
Schools that do not want to have a chapter can have their students join as members at large. Individual students whose schools do not have chapters may also join as members at large. The application form along with payment information is available here: IJCL Member at Large.
For more detailed information, contact: chair@ijcl.org.
All Indiana membership work should be done through the state site first. We collect money for both state and national dues to make it easier for you and your treasurer.
IJCL Chapter dues are currently $20.
Individual IJCL member dues are currently $5

Indiana Membership Directions from National Office
This type of membership is open to classics students who do not have a Junior Classical League chapter at their own school. Since a chapter can now consist of one member, anyone filling out this form might consider forming their own chapter as an alternative. The difference is that a chapter must have a sponsor who is a member of the American Classical League. There are certain benefits (like running for national office) that are open to members of a chapter, but are not available to a member at large. If you decide to become a chapter instead of submitting this form, please send an email to chair@ijcl.org so we can help you get your chapter started.
Individual membership is $10 per person before January 15 and $20 per person after January 15. This covers both national ($5) and state ($5/15) dues.
Complete the Member-at-Large Form and submit payment.
