On September 19, nearly 60 students, sponsors, and SCLers met at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis to kick off the 2026-2027 school year with a variety of activities that gave attendees a taste of what the IJCL is all about. Attendees chose from Street Certamen (a mix of standard certamen questions and pop culture trivia), Impromptu Costume (a mashup of impromptu art and the costume contest), and a Praetoria idea sharing session for the first round of stations. For the second round, the options were building a mini catapult, going on a nature walk with Latin words, or playing field games at Laeti Ludi. In the final round of stations, participants could play Ultimate Frisbee (training for the Indiana team's dominance at the 2027 National Convention), group up to play card games at a mixer, or share more club ideas at another Praetoria session. In between the stations, groups colored a collaborative mural with the year's theme, Aequam memento rebus in arduis servare mentem, decorated cardboard box chariots which were then manned by stuffed-animal charioteers for a parade of chariots at the end of the day, and after lunch some helped wash mugs for a future event at the Peace Learning Center while others helped tidy up the landscaping around the building. Lunch also featured an opportunity to shop at the IJCL Agora, and throughout the day participants could tattoo a state officer by donating to an IJCL fundraiser in amounts that determined how many and what size of tattoos each officer had to wear for the rest of the day.
