If the NJCL National Convention experience had to be summed up in a few words, those words would be “Super State Convention.” This convention is five days of pure excitement with your delegation and other JCL’ers just as passionate about Latin as you. You get to compete in friendly competition with classics students from across the nation. The Indiana Junior Classical League delegation stops at all sorts of fun places along the way from amusement parks to malls and from historical sites to cranberry farms! National Convention is a truly amazing experience, and you are sure to develop friendships that, like the classics, can weather the ages. The 2027 National Convention will be held in Virginia at the College of William and Mary.

2026 Recap: National Convention at Indiana University
Approximately 1,100 students, teachers, and chaperones from across the United States gathered at the 73rd annual National Junior Classical League (NJCL) Convention held at Indiana University Bloomington, and virtually from July 20 to 26. Among those were 81 delegates from the Indiana Junior Classical League (IJCL), including high school students, college students, adult sponsors, and chaperones. Students competed in academic, graphic art, creative art, and athletic events. Additionally, students participated in daily spirit competitions.

The Novice certamen team won 1st place!!!
Gavin Beuchel, Cameron Fullhart, Lucas Jackson, and Colin Presser, all from Canterbury played and were coached by David Jackson.
Jeremy Walker received the Mildred Sterling Award.
This award was created in 1997 in the honor of Mildred Sterling, a Latin teacher from Waco, Texas. Ms. Sterling attended every NJCL Convention from the first one in 1954 all the way up through 1996, and she even attended the 1953 planning meeting for that first convention. The award honors those persons who have attended many NJCL Conventions and who have distinguished themselves with dedication to NJCL during their time here.
Brittany Haworth received the Summa Cum Laude sponsor award.
This award goes to sponsors who have attended at least 10 national conventions, sponsored state officers, and served on national committees in addition to other requirements. Brittany was the only sponsor to receive the award this year.
Indiana's newsletter Veritas et Scientia by Sophia Hill placed 4th
Indiana received 2nd place in large states for silent spirit and roll call, 3rd overall led by Lola Coil, Second Vice-President
Charley Kendall placed 5th in overall Creative Arts and Haylen Kendall placed 1st in overall Creative Arts.
Nic Collier was elected NSCL Treasurer and Jake Presson was elected NSCL President.
