What is JCL?
The Indiana Junior Classical League (IJCL) is a state chapter of the National Junior Classical League (NJCL), which exists to encourage the study and exploration of classical languages (Greek and Latin) and ancient cultures. NJCL is the largest classical organization in the world today, and one of the largest student organizations, with over 50,000 members throughout the USA, Canada, and Australia.
As a state chapter, the IJCL is made up of local school chapters as well as members-at-large. A school may join as a chapter of the IJCL with an adult sponsor (e.g. the Latin teacher or another adult willing to serve as sponsor) who is a member of the American Classical League (ACL), parent organization of the NJCL and IJCL. Teachers interested in starting a new JCL chapter can contact the Mentorship Chair at mentor@ijcl.org for guidance in navigating the process and managing the many options JCL offers for schools to get involved. A student at a school without a JCL chapter may also join as a member-at-large.
