Do you enjoy quiz bowl games? Do you get a rush when faced with a Latin mythology question? Do you want to have a blast in your JCL experience? If you said yes to any of these questions, then certamen is the game for you. Compete with your team against others for the bragging rights of winning certamen! Certamen is held at State Convention, National Convention, and even its own Invitationals every year. Each year, there are up to four invitationals: Saturnalia (December), Hoosier (January), Indiana (February), and Floralia (April).

Certamen Overview
Certamen is a wonderful academic competition for students of Latin that involves questions about all aspects of the classical world in a quiz competition with buzzers. It provides a way for students to extend their learning outside of the classroom, to compete again their peers, to gain recognition, and to socialize with other students who share their interests. Certamen also provides you with yet another way to promote your program with your administrators who appreciate academic results and your community who like to see pictures of students with their certificates. Certamen is offered at both State and National Convention, while also has its own events specifically for this quiz bowl.
There are three levels:
novice (for first-year students)
intermediate (for second-year and third-year students)
advanced (for students from any level)
