My dear teachers and students,
I'm very glad to meet you and stay in your land. And I would also like to thank you for this very friendly welcome.
I'm going to introduce you to my high school. The official name is the Institute of Secundary Education (IES) sa Colomina, an educational center of public ownership. The name "sa Colomina" is a place name because it refers to an ancient estate, in which the institute was built as early as 2000-2001. In fact, last year we spent 20 years as director Ernesto Olariaga. Currently, it is headed by Javier Morillo. Secondary education, baccalaureate, and
professional training cycles of the computer branch. It is the largest high school in Ibiza, having a capacity of 960 pupils (source: Encyclopedia of Ibiza and Formentera) and almost 90 teachers.
As you know, it is located on the island of Ibiza in the western Mediterranean; and together with Formentera, Menorca and Mallorca, it forms the Balearic Islands, an autonomous community of Spain. It should be noted that UNESCO declared Ibiza heritage of humanity in 1999, due to the quality of its coastal waters—thanks to oceanic posidonia prairies, marine plant—and to the conservation of its historic assets—such as the Renaissance wall of Dalt Vila. This millennia-old culture and the rich biodeversity of Ibiza live with an internationally recognized tourist offer.
At this point, I would like to talk to you about our new educational project which, at this stage, we want to implement. These are identity features, pedagogical principles and educational objectives that we have set ourselves in the face of the social challenges posed by the current information and communication society.
First, love for our land and our language: Catalan.
Secondly, respect for the environment, for all cultures and all religious beliefs.
Thirdly, we focus attention on the diversity of our students' learning, as well as on inclusion and co-education.
Fourthly, we are based on democratic and collaborative principles, and we believe in solidarity between peoples.
Finally, it defines the commitment to the Erasmus+i project and the European values it represents.
I don't want to end this speech without paying attention to you, students. For this reason, the sa Colomina high school has set itself the main objective of creating a Centre where there is a good school climate and coexistence and where students can achieve a high degree of school success through pedagogical innovation, interdisciplinaryness and the use of TIC-TACs.
In short, we want to become an institute for the social and educational environment.
Thank you very much for your attention and remember: NO EDUCATION, NO FUTURE. STUDY!
