Communication
An informed and involved parent community is an asset in any educational environment. Parents and teachers are encouraged to remain in regular contact. It is essential that parents provide up to date contact information to the school and complete/temporary guardianship papers when they will be away from Addis.
The main mode of communication from the middle school is through the ICS Weekly which is publish every week on Thursday. On rare occasions the middle school office will send emails to parents with relevant information.
ICS pursues our goal of parent partnership in a variety of ways:
All students will use a school provided paper agenda to plan and organize their academic studies. Additional information will be posted in Google Classroom. Parents should collaborate with their child on how to locate upcoming work and assignments.
Before the start of a new unit parents will receive a unit overview letter from the teacher describing key aspects of the upcoming unit of learning. Parents will also receive an email at the end of each unit notifying them that grades have been updated within PowerSchool.
Parent–teacher conferences may be initiated at any time.
The Board of Governors holds two open ICS Association General Meeting's (AGM) per year. All parents and teachers may attend these to learn more about the school’s status and future plans.
ICS has a Divisional Open House nights for parents and Parent Education Sessions.
Channels of Communication
Parents should follow the following channels of communication when they would like to make their views known:
When parents would like to discuss their child’s schoolwork they should begin by seeing the teacher. Appointments with teachers should be arranged through the respective school offices.
Concerns that cannot be resolved through a conference with the teacher, or questions of a more general nature concerning the operation of the school and its programs, may be discussed with the respective school principal. Please arrange appointments by telephoning or emailing the Middle or High School Offices.
If the concern still remains unresolved, the Head of School is the final level of appeal. The Head of School acts as an agent of the Board of Governors and is the normal channel of communication between the Board and parents.

Parent/Guardian Contact Information
ICS stresses the importance of providing a safe and well-balanced school program. However, we recognize that even with the most thorough preparations, accidents and emergency situations may occur. It is important that each student’s parents provide the school with the most current information that will assist in the event of an unfortunate situation. At the beginning of school families will be asked to verify the contact data on file at the school. The parents will be asked to confirm the accuracy of this information and make amendments as needed. Should this information change during the year, parents are asked to contact the school with these amendments.
Parents or legal guardians are the only persons recognized by the school to…
● give permission for participation in school activities
● sign forms, write notes of absence
● allow students to leave school in case of illness
● pick up children from school
Persons designated to perform any of the above activities must have written authority from a parent or legal guardian. Forms are available from the Counseling Office and kept in the student's file. Temporary guardianship should also be recorded in the student's file.
