ICS Middle School Homework Policy Overview
All homework aligns with ICS values: Take Care of Yourself | Take Care of Others | Take Care of This Place
Homework reinforces classroom learning, builds self-management skills, and supports student wellbeing and never burdens students or families. Homework at ICS is an opportunity to extend and support learning, not a requirement for every lesson or every day. In line with best practice for young adolescents, teachers will only assign homework when it serves a clear and specific learning purpose. When homework serves genuine learning, respects student wellbeing, and stays assessment-free outside class, we build independent learners who are confident, healthy, and connected to their community.
Formative and summative assessments ONLY occur during regular class time. No quizzes, tests, or assessed projects as homework or during GrowTime (except make-up work for absences, or extension as required by ILP).
