Arriving on time is a key part of being learning ready and is everyone's individual responsibility. When students arrive late to class, it disrupts their own learning and the learning of others. Punctuality helps students build responsibility, establish positive routines, and show respect for their teachers and classmates.
Lesson Start Times: Students are expected to be in their classrooms, ready to learn, at the scheduled start of each lesson.
Late Definition: A student is considered late if they arrive after the lesson has begun.
Why Being on Time Matters
Ensures every student begins learning promptly.
Minimizes disruptions to the class community.
Helps students develop responsibility, independence, and respect for shared time.
Reinforces the ICS Way: Take Care of Yourself, Take Care of Others, Take Care of This Place.
The school views punctuality as a shared responsibility between students, families, and staff.
We will proactively communicate with families if patterns of lateness emerge, so families are aware and can support their child in making positive changes.Â
Working together helps reinforce consistent expectations at home and school, ensuring that students arrive on time, ready to learn each day.
Immediate Impact: If a student is late to a lesson, they will lose access to play facilities (such as playgrounds, courts, and fields) for the following week.
Multiple Lates: Each additional late results in an additional week of restricted access. For example, two lates equal two weeks without access.
Student Voice and Support
We believe in the importance of student voice. Every student has the opportunity to meet with the Deputy Principal, Grade Level Leader, Advisor and / or Subject Teacher to talk about their lates to ensure nothing is missed and students know they have the opportunity to advocate for themselves.
Conversations are designed to be supportive, helping students understand the impact of being late and empowering them to take responsibility for their routines.
Reset Opportunity: If a student has no lates during a full week, all restrictions are removed to provides a fresh start that celebrates and recognizes positive change.
