The MYP is an excellent fit for our middle school students at ICS Addis Ababa because it nurtures curiosity, critical thinking, and global-mindedness—qualities that resonate deeply in our diverse, international community. Rooted in inquiry-based learning, the MYP empowers students to explore real-world issues through interdisciplinary connections and personal interests, helping them develop both academic strength and a sense of purpose. At ICS, where students come from many cultures and backgrounds, the MYP’s emphasis on intercultural understanding, service as action, and learner agency supports their growth into compassionate, reflective, and resilient individuals. It equips them not just for academic success, but for making meaningful contributions to their communities—locally and globally.
The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is a comprehensive educational framework designed for students aged 11-16. It encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world, preparing them for success in further education and life beyond the classroom. This guide provides an overview of the MYP curriculum for grades 6-10, including the structure, subject groups, assessment criteria, and unique elements that define the program.
The MYP is divided into five years, corresponding to grades 6-10. Here at ICS, grades 6-8 are in the Middle School and grades 9-10 are in the High School. So, the MYP spans across both the Middle and High Schools. ICS began implementing the MYP in 2022-23 in grades 6-8 then in 2023-24 in grade 9 and finally in 2025-4-25 in grade 10.
