Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills are a vital part of the MYP, helping students become independent, reflective, and adaptable learners. These skills go beyond subject content, empowering students to take ownership of their learning, collaborate effectively, and navigate real-world challenges. ATL skills are intentionally taught, practiced, and reflected upon across all subject areas to support student success now and in the future.
Here are the five ATL skill categories:
Communication – Expressing ideas clearly and listening actively in various formats and contexts.
Social – Working effectively with others, showing empathy, and building positive relationships.
Self-management – Organizing time and tasks, managing emotions, and staying motivated.
Research – Finding, evaluating, and using information to deepen understanding.
Thinking – Using creative and critical thinking, problem-solving, and reflection to make informed decisions.
