Cwmclydach Primary School - Science and Technology

As the new curriculum is explored, developed and tested we have worked very hard to ensure that the Science and Technology area of knowledge and experience team, school and community works closely ensuring that we develop a curriculum for all, enabling success for all and the opportunity for pupils to reach their full potential and become ambitious, confident inspirational and well-informed individuals.

The importance of science and technology in our modern world cannot be overstated. Developments in these areas have always been drivers of change in society, underpinning innovation and impacting on everyone’s lives economically, culturally and environmentally. As such, the Science and Technology Area of Learning and Experience will be increasingly relevant in the opportunities young people encounter and the life choices that they make.

As the Science and Technology area of knowledge and experience we have taken into account the the school vision and the core purposes of the curriculum as set out in 'A Curriculum for Wales' when planning learning experiences; endeavouring to enable all pupils to become:

ambitious, capable learners ready to learn throughout their lives
enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in in life and work
ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world
healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society

We have developed a tagline that encompasses what Science and technology means to us all in Cwmclydach.

We have developed our AOLE vision ensuring that we have taken into account the schools vision and the core purposes of the curriculum.

We have explored the four purposes and what this means for our children and how our curriculum in Cwm will support our learners to realise them.

Our Science and technology area of learning and experience placemat shows where we are and how we are exploring, developing and trialing what our curriculum will look like in Cwm.

Science and technology @Cwm will endeavour to raise the aspirations for all our learners. It is essential for our children to play an active part in their community and wider society, and to thrive in the increasingly complex world.

During the Spring term we have been working on developing our AOLEs and exploring their place in the Curriculum@Cwm. Below is a small snapshot of where we now are.

During the Summer term 2022 we have been designing and trialing what our curriculum@Cwm would look like. We have worked with our cluster schools, learners, staff and parents to develop a purpose led learner driven curriculum. Below is a review of Science and Technology@Cwm and what our next steps will be.
