Finding our place in the world!
As we progress into the new Curriculum for Wales, staff at Cwm Clydach Primary are ensuring we provide the necessary skills for all pupils to awaken a sense of wonder, fire the imagination and inspire learners to grow and become ethical and informed citizens of Wales and the world.
To support our teaching of Humanities we have incorporated our school vision and the core purposes of the curriculum in order to provide experienced based learning for all. These experiences will encourage the children to become:
ambitious, capable learners ready to learn throughout their lives.
enterprising, creative contributors ready to play a full part in life and work.
ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world.
healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.
Humanities enables us to understand our past so we can be prepared for the future. We enable learners to be inquisitive about the world and have the skills to question and find their sense of belonging.
We want our learners to become ethical, ambitious and informed individuals who are ready to play an active role as citizens of Wales and the world.
At the beginning of the school year, we had a vision we wished to achieve in order to promote the Humanities AOLE in Cwm Clydach. These included:
1.To complete an audit to identify what resources we have available to deliver Humanities across each year group.
2. To ensure all staff are familiar with the statement of what matters relating to Humanities.
3.To take part in whole school themed weeks to ensure we are meeting the what matter statements.
1. To complete an audit to identify what resources we have available to deliver Humanities across each year group.
We have carried out an audit to identify what we resources we need to purchase to deliver Humanities, across each year group. We also carried out a questionnaire to ensure all staff are confident in delivering Humanities and if there are areas of training that need to be provided. From this, we have purchased a Religious Education scheme of work that goes from Nursery to year 6, it covers a variety of religions values and celebrations. This scheme of work is an enquiry based model, it encourages children to become critical thinkers, discuss ethical values such as commitment or belonging and become confident learners who are able to examine and reinforce their own beliefs and values to become valued members of society.
2. To ensure all staff are familiar with the statement of what matters relating to Humanities.
We have created and shared a Humanities placemat.
This shows what we providing in each area of learning to support each area in Humanities.
Information about the Humanities AOLE was shared in a whole staff meeting for staff to contribute ideas and ask questions about the changes to the curruiculum
3. To take part in whole school themed weeks to ensure we are meeting the what matter statements.
We have an upcoming History project. The whole school will be taking part to investigate the lives of children in our area. Our topic title is:
Family, friendship and fun, The changing face of childhood in Clydach Vale.
We look forward to sharing our findings and what we have learned in the near future.
Up and coming events also include, Welsh Week and Eco Week.
