As we progress into the new Curriculum for Wales, staff at Cwm Clydach have a goal to ensure that Health and Wellbeing is the pillar of all our teaching and learning. We feel it is incredibly important that all children build all the necessary skills and opportunities to become confident and ambitious learners both in Cwm Clydach and in their futures.
Developing a good relationship and understanding of Health and Wellbeing is incredibly important to ensure success in the future. Being aware of how to keep ourselves healthy physically through diet and exercise and mentally through understanding our emotions is a key element to supporting our learning into our futures.
To support our teaching of Health and Wellbeing we have incorporated our school vision and the core purposes of the curriculum in order to provide experienced based learning for all. These experiences will encourage the children to become:
ambitious, capable learners ready to learn throughout their lives.
enterprising, creative contributors ready to play a full part in life and work.
ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world.
healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

Our Action Plan
At the beginning of the school year, we had a vision we wished to achieve in order to promote health and wellbeing in Cwm Clydach. These included:
To promote the core concepts of H&W within the Curriculum for Wales 2022 to staff and pupils.
To ensure that our school is able to provide the best learning opportunities in H&W.
To provide all pupils with learning opportunities in H&W across the curriculum.
To provide all pupils with learning opportunities in Physical Education.
To provide opportunities to promote physical wellbeing outside of school.
To promote the core concepts of H&W within the Curriculum for Wales 2022 to staff and pupils.
We have created and shared our Health & Wellbeing placemat. This shows what we providing in each area of learning to support H&W.
Our children have worked hard to create mascots linked to the Four Purposes. Check out Healthy Harold who promotes Health & Wellbeing at our school.
Welcome to 'The Happy Place'.
This is an area that we have created where the children are encouraged to celebrate and explore their uniqueness whilst learning about and gaining a better understanding of all their emotions.
2. To ensure that our school is able to provide the best learning opportunities in H&W.
3. To provide all pupils with learning opportunities in H&W across the curriculum.
We have had a variety of learning opportunities to develop our teaching in H&W, included all staff being trained in delivering PE sessions provided by RealPE and a brand new scheme of work introduced by Jigsaw. We are working towards two accreditations this year linked to Health & Wellbeing; Nurturing Schools and Trauma Informed Schools. We are looking to gain accrediation in Summer 2022.!
We participate in a number of whole school celebration days, such as 'You ROCK! Day' in 2021 and 'Sparkle' Day to promote our uniqueness. Look out on the calendar page for more events coming and be sure to check out our class blogs for all these exciting events!
4. To provide all pupils with learning opportunities in Physical Education.
5. To provide opportunities to promote physical wellbeing outside of school.
Providing all children with different opportunities to engage in Physical Education is incredibly important. At Cwm Clydach, we are achieving this through a number of experiences such as 'Sporting Marvels' attending KS2 each week and completing whole school rambles.
We are lucky in Cwm Clydach to have so many sporting opportunities surrounding us. We have links with a variety of sports groups including Sporting Marvels who provide information on available, local sports clubs. We also provide H&W opportunities such as the Foundation Phase 'Let's Get Physical' after school club. We are currently updating our outdoor areas and our School Council have been busy coming up with lots of ideas on how to fundraise in order to make our outdoor area the best that it can be!
