Cross-curricular skills became a mandatory element of Curriculum for Wales from September 2022. Schools must therefore embed cross-curricular skills across all areas of learning, ensuring that learners progressively develop their skills and their ability to apply these skills in various contexts.
This resource guides you through a process for developing a strategic whole school approach to developing cross curricular skills. Schools may decide to follow the whole process, whilst some may wish to follow specific sections. The resource will guide schools towards achieving the following aims:
To ensure progression within cross-curricular skills is embedded across all areas of learning and experience.
To strengthen the school’s strategic approach to developing cross-curricular skills.
To build accountability and high expectations for standards in cross-curricular skills.
This process will guide you through the steps of forming, implementing and reviewing a whole school strategy for embedding and developing skills across the curriculum. The process is mainly constructed through a series of aims and considerations. Actioning and implementing the various stages of the process will vary from school to school. For example, they will be dictated by several factors such as the size of the school, leadership structure, current provision, teachers knowledge and understanding of cross-curricular skills etc.
