Hokkaido University faculty and students are both capable of using [G Suite for Education], provided by Google. Because G Suite for Education is connected with Hokkaido University's SSO (Single Sign-on System), you can use your ELMS mail address and ELMS password to login. Also, as it is an independent cloud service, you can use G Suite for education even when ELMS is not available.
Below, you will find an explanation of the various basic services that G Suite offers for educational purposes, as well some simple explanations of the features that teachers and students will likely make the most use of.
Allows for emails between teachers and students. Comes equipped with a powerful spam filter and a search tool.
Can be used to arrange schedules with group members or other uses. Additionally, it is possible to restrict sharing privileges, hence ensuring both security and privacy.
Allows for sharing files with individuals and the group. Assignments, documents, class curriculum, etc. can be organized and securely stored and accessed from any device.
Video-conferencing for up to 250 participants.
Possible to create a forum to be used by teachers and students. Can also be used to create mailing lists.
Browsers that can support G Suite
1)Using the internet browser of your choice, access the G Suite service homepage.
Gmail: https://mail.google.com/
Google Calendar: https://calendar.google.com/
Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/
As an example, if you want to access Gmail, you will first see the image displayed to the left on the Gmail login screen. Choose [Sign in] on the top right corner of this screen to proceed.
2)From here, you will be able to see the login screen for Gmail. Enter your ELMS mail address and click [Next] to continue to the Hokkaido University SSO login page.
3)Once Hokkaido University's SSO is displayed, please enter your ELMS ID into the [SSOID] column and your ELMS password into the [SSO password] column. After you have done this, please press the login button.
In the case that faculty access SSO from outside of the campus, they will need to have a onetime password prepared to login. Please make the necessary preparations in advance.
4)You will now be logged in and see see the top page for Gmail.
If it is your first time logging in, you will see Google's license agreement displayed on your screen. Press [agree] to continue.
