Fulfills MMC graduation requirement toward 1.0 credit in Visual, Performing, or Applied Arts.

Students will experience the four basic building methods in clay (pinch, coil, slab, and wheel), sculpture and various decorating methods. Improvement in skill development and design possibilities is the basis for evaluating students new to clay work. Students will also work to understand the basis for three- dimensional design, and be exposed to the industrial, utilitarian, and expressive uses for silicates (ceramic compounds). This course is an excellent choice for those students who like working with their hands. There will be an $18 lab fee to cover the cost of clay and glazes. *The serious student may enroll into 947 3-D for further study in this area.

Prerequisite: C- or higher in Ceramics (945)

A semester long course that develops ceramic skills by building on the basics and creating an understanding of sustained investigation and expand upon materials and techniques. This course allows for a pottery emphasis, unlike the introductory course.
