This is an entry-level unit standard for people to demonstrate a basic understanding of selecting, using, and caring for engineering hand held power tools.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of the selection of hand held engineering power tools to complete tasks; demonstrate and apply safety when using hand held engineering power tools; select, use and care for portable hand held engineering power tools.
Portable hand held engineering power tool examples – drills, grinders, sanders, brushes, buffs, wrenches (including impact type).
These may be powered by electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic sources.
Before Completing this assessment you will need to complete the worksheets as an introduction to electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic safety
Complete the following assessment tasks:
You must complete the practical aspect of this course.
You will need to complete 4 observation task sheets
This will involve:
» Selecting the appropriate tool(s) for the task, including any attachments.
» Identifying and managing the hazards of the tool(s) and the task.
» Carrying out pre-use checks, and using the tool(s) safely.
» Caring for the tool(s)
» Answering questions about the task and the tool(s).
Across the four Observation Checklists you must carry out four different tasks using different portable hand held engineering tools.
Across the four observations you must use at least five different tools (i.e. at least one task will require the use of two tools).
When you have completed all assessment tasks, complete the ‘Candidate evidence check’ at the end of this Guide.
You may wish to provide additional supporting evidence that proves you have the knowledge and skill that ls required by this unit. Additional evidence may include, for example, workplace documentation you have used and/or completed, training records, photos, screenshots, printouts, videos, voice recordings.
