People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify fasteners commonly used in mechanical engineering and outline their uses; and demonstrate knowledge of threaded fasteners
for example –
screws and bolts including various types of heads and self-tapping screws
different types of nuts including locking nuts
plain, spring, and serrated washers
various types of pins including cotter pins
For this topic student will need to complete the following assessment guide and complete the practical coursework projects .
What you need to do
1. Complete the following assessment tasks: Questions Answer questions about fasteners used in mechanical engineering.
2. When you have completed all assessment tasks, complete the ‘Candidate evidence check’ at the end of this Guide.
3. When you are sure you have completed and/or attached everything hand your work into your teacher.
Your evidence must clearly show you have knowledge of fasteners used in mechanical engineering.
Complete all assessment tasks yourself. Use your own words when answering questions.
It is expected that you will have had experience of fasteners used in mechanical engineering before you are formally assessed.
Your assessor may ask you for additional evidence to support your competency.
All tasks you carry out for this assessment must be completed following workplace procedures, and comply with organisational and legislative (legal) requirements.
