This is an entry-level unit standard for people to demonstrate a basic understanding of selecting, using and caring for the correct type of engineering hand tools.
People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of the selection of different types of hand tools; select and use engineering hand tools to meet task requirements; and care for engineering hand tools.
Engineering hand tools applicable to this unit standard fall within the following categories:
Cutting tools: examples – hacksaws, chisels, files, hole punches, tin snips.
Assembly tools: examples – hammers, punches, vices, clamps, spanners, wrenches (including impact and torque), pliers.
Complete the following Assessment Booklet.
There are several sections to this booklet that will need completing .
The first part requires you to answer several questions regarding cutting and assembly tools.
The second part is a series of tasks that you must be observed safely using hand tools for cutting and using assembly hand tools. This will involve:
» Carrying out using a handsaw for Observation one.
» Carrying out using a file for Observation two.
» Carrying out using a hand tool for cutting sheet metal for Observation three.
» Carrying out using allen keys , spanner or a wrench for Observation four.
» Carrying out using a hammer for Observation five.
» Carrying out using a tool for gripping for Observation six.
All sections must be completed and signed off
There is a requirement to write a blog post for this assessment where you will need to record your supporting evidence .

You will need to hand in your booklet on the due date for assessment or paste a link for the electronic copy.
