DAGS Hawaii Engineer TA Maui schools?
Engage local leaders to:
Familiarize them with the project
Understand the most effective ways / communication channels to reach their communities
Identify key community members who can help advance the concept of the school as a resource to the community (in addition to Mo‘olelo’s recommendations)
Understand community needs and priorities, to inform SFA’s facility planning efforts. This may include:
What are current or emerging activities and programs that are not sufficiently supported by facilities accessible to the community
What are existing resources (facilities & programs) that the community does have access to, and are there areas where the school can help supplement or be more accessible
What are community-based activities and programs that could be supported by the school campus?
What facilities does the community need (e.g. what type of recreational facilities)
Work through engagements to get at an understanding of what is more important - what are the priorities among the needs stated?
Explore opportunities and operational implications through a community lens, to inform SFA’s coordination with school stakeholders and operational planning.
What does access need to look like? Discuss after-hours and weekend use.
What contributions can the community make to stewardship of the site
Discover opportunities for curriculum integration
Who could be partners / collaborators / operators of specific spaces, e.g., local halau hula, ballet
