Physical security - how safe a school is from unwanted intruders - both internal and external.
Inside, you may have:
locking mechanisms,
CCTV cameras, and
other solutions that prevent people from creating physical harm to property or occupants inside and outside of the school.
?
?
?
External physical security may include:
barriers,
gates, and
blockades that prevent unwanted people or vehicles from breaching the perimeter.
?
?
?
Schools require a key to enter classrooms.
However, not all spaces will have security to prevent unwanted people from entering employee areas.
What areas should be restricted? Example: the Main distribution Frame (MDF)

Modern camera technology can pick up precise footage.
Install hidden and visible cameras throughout the school for visual access to all key areas.
The sight of security cameras will deter most criminals. For those that still intrude, you’ll have a clear image once they enter the property.
Security Grilles
Security grilles are an excellent option to close down sections of the school during off-hours. Users can still peer into the rooms during off-hours but can’t access them.
Most schools use them for:
Trophies,
School merch “shops”,
food service, and other amenities.

Small anti-theft devices can go a long way. By locking up merchandise and other items, you’ll prevent people from stealing goods from your school. Provide a program for staff education on anti-theft measures designed for the school.
Locking drawers?
Teachers can also use locking cabinets in classrooms to protect goods.

The layout of the school needs to allow for the following:
Employees need to have a clear evacuation plan that gets everyone out of the building quickly and safely in the event of a fire.
Schools will conduct regular fire drills and ensure that all fire detection systems are up and running - where will they “escape” to for line-up at drill and in a real event?
Lighting
Work a lot of magic with lighting to set the mood and create the overall feel for people entering the property before, during, and after school hours. Proper lighting can also make a school safer. Schools should have an arsenal of safety backup lights that go on due to a power outage.
Use state of the art top-notch LED lights. Come up with a plan for lighting controls. LEDs are incredibly bright and will illuminate any hazardous passageways with ease. You can find various types of LED lights, choosing the correct temperature of lighting can make all the difference. Lighting at 3500-4000K makes food look better.
Fencing
Having a durable fence around specific areas is crucial to prevent intruders, wind, or anything else that may wreak havoc inside. Identify those spaces and who can access ie. open to the public after school hours? :
1)?
2)?
3?
Like fencing, gates are there to prevent vehicles from entering or leaving the property. You can set gates at specific entry points to help regulate traffic flow:
School functions versus
Community functions
Emergency functions
Personal Security
Personal security is a protocol that protects all your people, assets, and information. Having proper personal security will reduce the harm caused to your guests and employees. There are various types of personal security you can implement, such as:
Security Guards
Will the school have on campus “security guards”? Maui Police are at Maui High?
Like your staff, all security guards should be up-to-date on rules and evacuation plans.
Barriers
To manage traffic flow within your school, consider how coning off certain drive aisles can change patterns and how parking lots can be used for queuing.
In 1997 The Construction Specifiers Institute (CSI) came out with a generalized listing (02795) for all porous paving products. However, since performance and application is varied even in the porous paving industry, the 2004 CSI MasterFormat™ has adopted a new number 32 12 43 Flexible Porous Paving, to recognize that Grasspave2 and Gravelpave2 are in a class by themselves.
