Welcome, 8th graders, to your United States history class! At the start of each week, I'll be sending out emails with essential information for the upcoming week. I forgot to send this out during week one. These emails will include a link to our lesson/unit webpage, where you'll find details about the week's homework assignments and helpful study guide links.
Students will be switching between science and social studies every other week. Parents, you can expect to hear from me on a bi-weekly basis to keep you in the loop. To wrap up each week, we'll have an assessment to gauge our understanding of the material. This week's assessment will be a Socratic Seminar and information will be link in this week's webpage.
This week we will be focusing on Lesson 33 in TCI- US Foreign Policy in a Global Age. The main focus of the week will be a Remembrance of 9/11. Students will also participate in small Socratic seminar groups to debate current policy issues dealing with foreign policy issues America has faced since the end of the Cold War. The essential question for the week will be How well have U.S. foreign policy decisions met the challenges of the global age?

What was going on in US history at this time that they made the speech?
How was this speech different from the other two Presidents you read at the start of class?
How was this speech similar to either of the other two Presidents you read at the start of class?
How can this teach us about "how past events, people, and ideas have influenced and shaped current U.S. foreign policy?"
