Civil War Week
This week, we begin our study of one of the most defining conflicts in American history: the Civil War. As we explore the war, we’ll focus on how geography, climate, and resources shaped the causes, course, and outcomes of the war. Our essential question is: How do geography, climate, and resources affect the way people live and work?
Throughout the week our focus will be the following:
We will look into the differences between the North and the South before the war.
Key political events that caused the Civil War.
We'll analyze the advantages and disadvantages each side had at the beginning of the war, helping us understand why the North ultimately won.
Major turning points like the Emancipation Proclamation and the Battle of Gettysburg, and how these moments changed the war's purpose and momentum.
Key battles of the War
Finally, we’ll examine the three Civil War Amendments
By the end of the week, you should be able to say:
“I can analyze how resources influence population movement and settlements throughout United States History.”
