Let's Talk Evolution
Sophia Ortiz
Evolution is the process by which populations change over time through changes in genetic traits. These changes occur due to several mechanisms, including genetic drift, gene flow, natural selection, artificial selection, and speciation. Mrs. Bloodworth's students' projects show how these forces shape populations across generations.
Genetic drift causes random changes in allele frequencies.
Gene flow increases genetic diversity and connects populations.
Directional selection drives adaptation.
Artificial selection allows humans to control trait inheritance.
Speciation results from long-term genetic divergence and reproductive isolation.
Together, these mechanisms explain how biodiversity develops and how populations evolve over time.
