Congratulations to Our January Students of the Month!
“James checks all of the boxes for a great student! He is a hard worker, smart, respectful toward his teacher, kind to other students and very fun to be around! He is helpful toward his peers and thoughtful in group discussion. I am grateful that he is at the Collegiate Academy!”
“Lucy is kind, witty, funny, and intellectual. She is a joy to have in class as she works hard on each and every assignment, demonstrating her analytical skills, exceptional writing abilities, and extraordinary artistic talent.”
Our Future is Public!

A few reminders about Edgenuity courses we want to make you aware of. This was a new program for us to use this year, and we want to make sure all parents and students are aware of how it works and how we will be using it. We are using it to cover high school graduation requirements that will not be covered by current or future dual credit classes.
For most students this year, it has been for Business Information Management. In future years, it will be used for health credit (if students don't already have the credit), possibly for foreign language credit (if they are not on the liberal arts pathway or haven't completed the high school requirement and don't want to take it at the college level), and also for any classes required for graduation that students might fail.
The structure and grading for Edgenuity courses are different than the regular HEB courses and more similar to the dual credit courses. Students are scheduled into a class period each Friday to work on the course, but it is self-paced, and students can also work on it outside of school or finish early. We do pull them from clubs and organizations on Friday if they are behind in their progress at certain benchmarks in the semester until they are caught up.
When students log in to their assigned courses, they can see their current grade based on the work they have done so far, as well as their current progress toward completing the course. In the example below, the student has an 83 on the 32% of the coursework she has done so far.
Because of the structure of the course, students will only receive a final semester grade, like the dual credit courses, after they have completed 100% of the course. If you would like to see their progress and grade throughout the semester, you will need to have them log in to Edgenuity and show you, just like with their dual credit courses in the TCC Canvas accounts.
This semester during their pathways courses, Mrs. Wilson will also be helping students with BIM B on Edgenuity. I know many students had a frustrating experience with BIM A, and we have worked on the course structure side of the class on Edgenuity and provided class time with Mrs. Wilson during her classes to ensure a smoother process this semester and moving forward.
We apologize for not clearly articulating the differences in these courses at the start. Being a brand-new program means we are also constantly learning and growing like the students, but we always want to ensure parents are aware of how things work to be able to support their students. If you ever have any questions about how something works or if there's something we need to clarify, please don't hesitate to let us know!
Thank you for your time,
Stacy Force
In Mrs. Wilson's Pathways to Success classes, students watched a segment of a recent Senate Commerce Committee hearing addressing the impact of screen time on children and young adults. The viewing prompted thoughtful discussion, during which students expressed their own perspectives, emotions and concerns about screen use in both academic and home settings.
Please click on the link below if you would like to view the testimony presented by Dr. Jared Horvath that sparked this discussion.
