This work will not be submitted but will provide a good foundation of knowledge that will give you a positive start with your course.
Your algebraic skills need to be very strong before you start Year 12 Mathematics. You will see from the Pure A Level Textbook the first chapters overlap with many GCSE topics so these are the topics you should focus on in your preparation. We will spend very little time on Chapter 1 so it is a good idea to work through this chapter in the summer before you start.
To help you with this you can visit the Hegarty Maths YouTube page which has lots of videos to on key algebra and number topics which can prepare you for studying A Level mathematics.

Transition Work
This work is to be completed before starting your course. The work will be set on Taster Day and due in during the first full week of College. This work will be assessed alongside subject assessments and Attitude to Learning.
You will work through the Transition Booklet will test you on the key algebra and number skills required as a prerequisite to study mathematics at A Level.
Complete Maths and Further Maths booklet. You need to do the starred (*) questions although you are welcome to try as many as you like. Mark all answers and work on the areas you struggle with.

Preparation for September
Find below the guidance on what will be required from September for your subjects. Subject textbooks are listed in priority order. Please see guidance before purchasing any textbooks.
Students need an A4 lined/squared project book or workbook for their notes. In addition you will need a folder to keep your assessments and specification in. You must also purchase a Casio fx-991CW calculator.
Alternatively the best calculator for A Level Maths is fx-CG50 graphic calculator.
